Gordon Herwig

Gordon Herwig is a PostDoc and Project Leader at the Empa labs in St. Gallen, Switzerland. After an IAESTE junior research stay at the CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering division (Clayton, AUS, 2013), he received his Masters in Chemistry/Chemical Physics from University of Technology Chemnitz, Germany (2014). He joined the groups of Andrew P. Dove and Rachel O’Reilly at the Universities of Warwick and Birmingham for his PhD on surface-erodible biocompatible polymers for 3D-printing funded by the Leverhulme Trust, graduating in 2019. Since 2020 he is part of the Empa labs for Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles, where he manages several research and pilot projects at the interface between academia and industry. While his main interest is pilot-scale Electrospinning and its applications in biomedicine, agriculture and the filter/textile industry, he is also leading general projects on encapsulation in collaboration with the textile, cosmetics and home care industries.
